Daily life in Kashmir has come to a halt in recent weeks after a string of protests and subsequent killings of unarmed civilians prompted the local authorities to impose a curfew over the entire region. Much of the world is unaware of the recent escalations in violence there. With the currently volatile states of Pakistan and Afghanistan next door, a resolution to the turmoil in Kashmir is imperative for broader South Asian security. United States interests and efforts to stabilize the region depend wholly on a well-informed and proactive public.
